“We have within us this power called the kundalini, that is to be raised. When it passes through all these various six chakras it integrates you, the physical, mental, emotional being gets integrated.

All these centres become enlightened and nourished, and then when you pierce through this fontanelle bone area you become connected with the all-pervading power which is so subtle.”

- Shri Mataji (08/10/1987, Belgium)

The picture symbolizes the integration of our physical, mental, and emotional aspects, and is referred to as the Subtle System.

Move your cursor over the parts of the subtle system to explore and learn more. In Sanskrit, Chakra means “wheel,” and Kundalini means “she who is coiled.” Each Chakra has its own color and number of petals. The subtle system also includes three nadis, or energy channels, which help look after our emotional, physical, and spiritual wellbeing. You can learn more about the subtle system in our in-person or online classes.

About the Founder

The technique of Sahaja Yoga meditation was developed by Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi in 1970. She travelled all over the world, giving hundreds of lectures to teach the technique to thousands of people. She devised this system so that masses of people could experience that which was previously attainable only by the few, and so that practitioners of Sahaja Yoga could pass the experience on to others.

Shri Mataji was a Guru. The word guru has a very specific meaning:

Gu = ignorance. Ru = dispeller.

Hence a Guru should be able to bring about the removal of ignorance which engulfs the human condition.

Shri Mataji welcomed people of all backgrounds, ages and faiths to try Sahaja Yoga, with no pre-requisites or pre-conditions. Today, Sahaja Yoga is practiced in over 90 countries across the world.
